The Context

Since 2016, where the talk is really built.

Since 2016, Damien Gauthier has coached 25+ TEDx speakers across 5 continents — scientists, founders, educators, activists, and executives, each with an idea worth spreading. TEDx is not a presentation format. It is a storytelling challenge: find the single thread, strip everything else, and deliver it with enough precision and warmth that a stranger watching on YouTube three years later still feels something.

The Challenge

Profound ideas. Presentations that felt academic, rushed, or disconnected.

Most TEDx speakers arrive with a genuine idea and enough material for three talks. The problem is never the thinking — it is the translation. Left alone, experts structure talks like academic papers. On stage, that loses an audience within four minutes.

  • Talk structured as introduction / argument / conclusion — works on paper, fails on stage
  • Speakers arrive with material for three talks and the instinct to include all of it
  • The 12-minute format demands more ruthlessness than a 60-minute keynote — every element must earn its place
  • Awareness that the talk will be recorded indefinitely pushes speakers toward polished and away from true
The Process

The talk is built in the months before the stage

Phase 1

Idea Sharpening

Distilled each speaker's core idea to its sharpest, most transferable form. Identified what makes it original, why this speaker is the right person to deliver it, and what the audience should do or feel differently after hearing it.

Phase 2

Talk Architecture

Built the narrative structure around the idea — opening that earns attention, body that builds the case without losing the thread, and a closing that makes the idea stick. No academic structure. No bullet points.

Phase 3

Emotional Beats

Mapped the emotional journey of the talk — where it needs to make the audience lean in, where it needs to give them space, where it needs to surprise them. Integrated personal story, concrete examples, and moments of silence with intention.

Phase 4

Rehearsal to Precision

Repeated, timed rehearsals — not to memorise a script but to own the talk so completely that it survives nerves, technical glitches, and the disorientation of a live stage. The goal: the same talk, every time, with room to be present.

"The 18 minutes on stage is the easy part. The 3 months before it are where the talk is really built."

What speakers say about the process

Speaker interview — coming soon

"A TEDx talk is not a presentation about your idea. It is your idea, made audible. Getting there requires a different kind of preparation — and a different kind of coach."

— Damien Gauthier, Impactful Speaking

"I came in with twenty years of research and no idea how to make a stranger care about it in twelve minutes. Damien helped me find the one story that held all of it together. That's the talk that reached 100,000 people."
